emotional wellness mental health Mar 01, 2023
Mental health issues have steadily risen and the increase in mental health conditions among all ages is a concern. The US surgeon general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, has declared mental health as one of our biggest health concerns. 1 in 5 U.S. adults face mental health issues each year, and 1 in 6 children aged 6-17 experience mental illness each year. External stressors, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, and now the economy are playing a role in the increase of stress and anxiety.

Being proactive is crucial! Often, there are precursors to mental health issues, such as stress and anxiety. Most of us experience stress daily, but prolonged or extreme stress can lead to the development of serious mental health issues. Stress can negatively affect behavior and lead to physical health problems as well. Engaging in exercise, journaling, and/or spending time with loved ones are routine things you can do, or you can consider more formal stress reducing activities such as meditation and aromatherapy.

The key to improving mental health starts with knowledge and awareness. Informative resources are available across a variety of platforms. Being aware of your mental health is one of the most important first steps you can take to better your mental wellbeing.  If you find yourself struggling, don’t be afraid to reach out to someone for help.
