Post Pandemic Foster Parenting
Mar 29, 2023Our Post Pandemic Parenting course offers insight on how to recognize and treat stress and anxiety in your child. In foster parenting, this is especially important, as ensuring your child’s security and mental health is crucial.
Jennifer Zavadil-Ryan, MSW/LSW, and therapist at Best Point, recently took the course and offered her thoughts.
“I think she packed a TON of info into those 20—25-minute segments. We took notes on the pages provided so I think I’ve spent hours watching it lol. I actually want to go through some of them I didn’t take notes on again. My husband did over half of it with me, but we also purchased his separately. He will finish on his. For Foster Care hours it is like your license hours. Each person has to have their own Certificates and own hours.
From a hopefully soon to be foster parent perspective- it was a wealth of knowledge. Holy heck the info on technology and the brain… Reinforced what I have seen doing respite. Kids watch these short YouTube videos... Ask them to watch a movie or engage in a task that takes sustained mental effort and they can’t sit through it. HUGE HUGE pet peeve of mine. I’ve been preaching this to the parents I work with and others because I’ve witnessed this. Kids are so used to the short videos over and over.”
This course offers current or future foster parents the opportunity to learn and implement strategies that will promote early intervention, resilience, and practical ways to reduce stress for their children.
